ROW80 Status – Day 16 (Jan 18)

First, a little bit of explanation regarding my post title. I like to post my updates at 6:00 AM, so I go by the day before the posting date. That’s why my day count may be different from yours.

Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way, here is my update. I’m still good. Still writing 500 words of fiction a day, still posting faithfully on my blog. Still haven’t started editing yet, but that will start once I finish my PR story. Speaking of which, here are my current word counts:

  • Finding Valhalla – 50,407
  • Six Days To Sabbath – 1,025

Finding Valhalla is now officially longer than my NaNoWriMo story, Dragons at Dawn, which came in at 50,279 words. And since I figure I am only about 70% done with the story I think I’ll end up with at least 70,000 words before I finish my first draft. That’s only another 40 days at 500 words per day, well within the time frame of ROW80. And if I can get some of my local author friends to meet me for a write-in I’ll be able to get it done even sooner. A few half hour word wars really help me boost that word count!

See you in a few days for another update! And don’t forget to check my blog between updates for my posts on my experiences as a beginning author. Tomorrow I’ll be blogging about how you can use music both in and out of your story.

  1. Excellent progress, Scott!

  2. Good progress! I still haven’t decided how long this one will be, but I am shooting for a shorter book than my other five; they were pretty thick, ranging from 380 (print) pages to 605.

I have come to realize that readers like smaller ones, so I’m hoping to bring this one in at just under 300 (print) pages, which is considerably less in manuscript form.

  3. Great progress so far! Hope you get a write-in going but you could always do some word wars on Twitter too. Good luck either way. 🙂

  4. Congrats on sticking to your goals.

  5. Good luck with your draft. sounds like you are doing great. Will check back in tomorrow to see what you have to say.

  6. Keep up the great work! I will make time to read up on your blog.
    Have a great day!
